We leave for the U.S. in 2 days and for the first We leave for the U.S. in 2 days and for the first time in years, I don’t have any client work going on! It feels a little weird to not have any current client projects, but I promised myself at the beginning of this year that I would take a legit break whenever we got to go home. We typically spend 10 months of the year living abroad, so any time that we get at home is super important and I’m excited to have the next 3 weeks without any client work hanging over my head. Ready for some much needed time with our family, friends AND ready to eat alllllll the American food that I’ve been deprived of for so long 😍 I’ll still be around while I’m at home, posting and checking my email occasionally and mainly focusing on things going on for my course students. But if I don’t respond immediately, now you know why!
Exciting news — my course for designers is OPEN Exciting news — my course for designers is OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT again! 🎉 It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve finally brought this course back with some amazing updates. If you’re a graphic designer who struggles with feeling confident while working with clients and developing a smooth, thoughtful process, THIS IS FOR YOU. In my course, you’ll get a comprehensive look at my entire process — all of the ins and outs, lessons, mistakes, and strategies that I use for streamlined projects. You can learn more about the course via the link in my bio and enroll by June 19th to save up to $150!

If you have questions about the course, go watch my IG story for more info on who it’s for and what’s included. I’m also donating a percentage of every course sale to Black Girls Code and the Black Artists + Designers Guild — both amazing organizations that provide resources and support to the Black community in the creative and tech industries.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared some resour Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared some resources and things that I’m learning/doing over on my IG stories. But I wanted to take some time to be more transparent about the work that I’m doing behind-the-scenes to actively support the Black Lives Matter movement and put my privilege to work.

01 / Listening. Go check out the BLM highlight on my profile to listen to some powerful conversations from @nicolewalters , @rachrodgersesq , @seventhandgray and @heymichellesanchez . I’ve also signed up for @lateshalynchdesigns workshop on the 29th on Creating an Inclusive Brand that I’m really excited about! Head to the link in her bio for more info.

02 / Learning. Watching 13th on Netflix and visiting the National Civil Rights Museum when we lived in Memphis were huge wake up calls for me in realizing that I hadn’t been taught the full extent of our horrible history. And being a fan of true crime, I’ve also learned a great deal about the justice system and it’s connections to racism through some great podcasts. Go check out my story highlight to find links to a few that really opened my eyes to how the justice system was never meant to be just.

03 / Giving. Over the past few weeks, I’ve tried to disperse my donations to organizations who are fighting racism in its many forms — from police brutality to voter suppression. And I plan on continuing to support organizations like these, specifically groups that provide education and resources to people of color who want to pursue careers in creative or tech industries. (I have a couple on my list, but would love more suggestions if you know of a group who does this!) 04 / Internal Changes. I know that it’s on me to make sure that my platform is welcoming to everyone and I’ve been evaluating how I can do better with this. From making sure that the moodboards and mockups that I present to clients are inclusive to making it a point to elevate more Black voices through blog posts, interviews and collaborations.

I’m learning how to be a better advocate and although some of this work is more behind-the-scenes, it is happening. And I’ll continue to share more as I listen, learn and grow 🖤 Font by @vocaltype.co
How much work goes into creating a logo? Well let How much work goes into creating a logo? Well let me tell you, A LOT. Before clients book with me, I always like to explain to them that good design takes time. Sometimes we get it right in the first round, but often times it takes a couple of iterations before we really find the perfect solution. And I actually love that part of the design process! I enjoy creating a more collaborative experience for my clients so we can figure out what works and what doesn’t together. As well as making sure that every design decision we make has meaning and purpose behind it. For @goodseedfloral ‘s branding, we went through a couple of rounds before we got to this gorgeous final logo. Swipe to see the evolution of their brand 👉🏻
Last week marked 4 years since I started Wayfarer Last week marked 4 years since I started Wayfarer and gosh, do I feel lucky to even be able to say that 🖤 Being a designer was always the dream for me, but being a business owner wasn’t necessarily my plan in the beginning. I awkwardly fell into entrepreneurship and I’m sure many other biz owners feel the same. Everything about it felt scary and totally out of my control, but I figured things out as I went and well.. here we are! 4 challenging, beautiful years later! —
When I look back on all of the projects that I’ve gotten to be apart of, I can’t help but feel grateful for all of the businesses who have trusted me with their vision and believed in what I do.
—
And looking forward, I’m eager to see what types of projects I work on next — hopefully some more product-based businesses in the beauty/fashion/decor industries since that’s where I personally draw so much inspiration. Year 4 is gonna be a good one ✨
Hi 👋🏻 I’m Abbey, the real life human behin Hi 👋🏻 I’m Abbey, the real life human behind Wayfarer! Every now and then I like to show my face and share more of the real stuff behind the business. So here are some honest answers about my business + what I do:

When did you start your business?
—
I started Wayfarer in 2016 (almost 4 years ago!) right after I graduated from college, got married, and move abroad for the first time. I guess you could say it was a busy month 😂

What’s your favorite part about your job?
—
Honestly, I genuinely just love to design stuff! I feel like it aligns well with how my brain works. Lots of visuals and LOTS of details. But I also love it when a client tells me how connected they feel to a concept that I create. I think that many business owners can sort of lose themselves while trying to grow their business, and it brings me so much joy when I can help a client feel that deep connection to their own business again by weaving their vision and goals into their branding.

What’s your least favorite part of your job?
—
Conflict. Of course, I enjoy being the boss, but I hate situations where I have to put my foot down and be assertive. I’m an enneagram 9, so my nature is to avoid conflict at all costs 😂

What’s a moment that you’re super proud of?
—
The latest launch of my course. I was nervous and set my goals pretty low. But it went WAY better than I expected and it was a big mindset check that taught me to believe more in myself.

What’s something you’re embarrassed of?
—
I didn’t even open a separate bank account for my business until this year. 🙈 Don’t ask me why, I just didn’t do it. Maybe because I was afraid to be “successful” and need one? But hey, I finally did it!

Biggest lesson learned?
—
Everyone is figuring things out as they go. And you always will be. And you can figure out so much more than you think. 🖤
